Salt Lake is relatively small, however, for your convenience consider your proximity to our house (marked with a star) and the venue (labelled) when deciding where to stay.

Many guests will be staying at the Hilton Doubletree Suites in Downtown Salt Lake City.

Other guests may find AirBnb to be a good option. Bear in mind that in Salt Lake City Proper--generally 2100 South and northwards--rentals of less than 30 days are not allowed in residential areas, limiting the number of available AirBnbs. However, there are far fewer restriction in South Salt Lake, Millcreek, Murray, Holladay, and Taylorsville. If you have any questions about where a good place to stay might be, please don't hesitate to ask.

Our Favorite Things to do in Salt Lake City

We love living in Salt Lake, and we can't wait to have some of our favorite people come visit! Below are some places we love to eat, drink, and explore in the Salt Lake Valley and along the Wasatch Front

Activities and Sight-seeing

It's under construction, and you might be accosted by very well-meaning missonaries, but it is also the most famous Place in Salt Lake City, and on the top of every must-see list.

I will not rest until every visitor to Salt Lake has experienced this 240 degree semicircular re-telling of Joseph Smith's vision of god. It is free, it is 6 minutes long, and it says more about the culture than anything I can think of, please, please, please check it out.

The State Arboreteum and a Botanical Garden! It's big, it's beautiful, and it costs $16

A labour of love by a devout bishop, this place has everything. Free entry, a house for pigeons, and even a giant sphinx with the head of Joseph Smith.

Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs! Adult Entry $23.

A beautiful place to jog, stroll, or walk your dog.

When Brigham Young first saw the Salt Lake Valley he famously said "This is the place," and this park commemorates that. It's got statues of all sorts of early immigrants to the Salt Lake Valley, and several historical buildings. An elementary school field trip favourite. Adult Admission $19

A favourite for jogging and walking dogs, as well as the home to Tracy Aviary, an outdoor pool, and Annelise's favourite--the Seven Canyons Fountain, which mimics the topography of the local landscape.

A beautifully designed urban library and community hub that is worth walking by and through.

A local independent movie theatre showing independent films, blockbusters, and re-runs.

There are bison and bighorn sheep! Sometimes it's an island but often it isn't (because of drought).

Annelise's Grandparents moved to Salt Lake City from Norway in the 1950s, in order to study at the University of Utah. One of her favourite things about living in Salt Lake is catching a glimpse of the famous  University of Utah giant block "U" emblazoned on Mount Van Cott.

It isn't Salt Lake, but it is where Annelise and Leo met, and where Leo went to High School. Park City is also the home to both the Sundance Film Festival, and one of the cutest (and steepest) Main Streets around. Well worth an afternoon trip.

It's where they filmed High School Musical! Leo's mother, Jill, also graduated from East High School.

Annelise works here! Maybe you want to see it? Free to enter 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. There is a security scanner and you can't bring glass, drugs, or weapons. There's a statue of Scott M. Matheson inside, even before security! The DA's Office Building is next door, it has very big stained glass on the outside--very visible.

Food and Drink: Some of Our Favourites

We had our first date at Tibetan Restaurant Café Shambala, and split an order of Veggie Fried Momos. We also love the Eggplant Sauté and Spinach Hot Garlic.

Leo used to live right around the corner from this family-owned Thai restaurant, and it's still our favourite. We like to order the Tofu Tom Yum Soup, Vegan Pad Kee Mao, and Green Curry.

This late-night Pizza joint has been a Salt Lake staple for decades, and is still the best place to go to grab a single slice of pizza, or to order an entire pie. The Vegan Slice of the Day is always good, and Leo loves the Roasted Red Pepper and Basil.

If you're as obsessed with Ethiopian food as we are, then you have to try out Oromian. We particularly love the Kochee Shiro and Vegetable Sambusas

We love Mumbai House so much we're having them cater our wedding! Leo's favorite is the Bayghan Makhani, and Annelise always orders the Pineapple Tofu Curry.

Vegan Diner Food all day! Another restaurant Leo used to live around the corner from. Annelise loves the Nachos, and Leo gets the Blue Plate Breakfast every time. Don't sleep on the tender tigers either!

A polarizing favorite of Annelise's that is in walking distance of Justice Court and makes vegan sandwiches. Annelise won quote of the week at work for describing Bud's Sandwiches as "fundamentally gross but tasty."

Neither Annelise nor Leo eats fish, but they both love Kyoto for the vibe and the veggie sushi. There are buzzier Japanese Restaurants in Salt Lake, but Kyoto has two bad-ass female sushi chefs and feels like stepping back in time.

It's open until 1am and you can eat all the tofu (or meat if you're so inclined) that you like! What more could you ask for??

Table X is a local farm to table restaurant that also sells bread and pastries Tuesday-Saturday. Get a loaf of the sourdough and a Croissant Loaf (Leo Approved).

A self-described "latin and eclectic bakery" Fillings and Emulsions has Leo-approved croissants and bread.

A local brewery with a dog friendly patio, a large and seasonal variety of small-batch beers on tap, and the option for 10-oz pours, samples, and flights.

A James Beard nominated bar that serves craft cocktails. Water Witch is also right next to Bar Nohm, a Japanese Izakaya inspired restaurant.

Specialty Coffee and Pastries made from the scratch! Try the batch brew, the vegan chocolate chip cookie, or a pourover.

Soft-serve and Vegan Soft-Serve available both by itself, or with a variety of toppings.

When Leo worked at Pink Elephant Coffee Roasters he supplied Tulie with coffee. Since then, Annelise has conducted dozens of Dartmouth Alumni Admissions interviews at Tulie.
